I am looking for cadastral (tax) records and maps

The cadaster is the basis for tax assessment and tax collection which was the responsibility of civil authorities in the individual provinces of the Habsburg Monarchy. Therefore cadastral records and maps (Theresianischer Kataster, Josephinischer Kataster, Franziszeischer Kataster) are to be found

1. for the territory of present-day Austria: in the respective provincial archives
2. for the territories of all other successor states: in the responsible archives

The Kriegsarchiv does not hold any cadastral records.

The original of the Franziszeischer Kataster (1817-1861) for the territory of present-day Austria is still preserved at the Bundesamt für Eich- und Vermessungswesen: Historischer Kataster – Urmappe.
