I am looking for portraits of generals, officers and soldiers

The Kriegsarchiv boasts a large collection of photographic and other pictorial material.

Our collection includes portraits (photographs) of generals and senior officers or group photographs of military units dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries but the holdings of more specialized institutions such asthe Heeresgeschichtliches Museum or theBildarchiv der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek are much richer and also cover earlier periods.

Conscripts were not systematically photographed by the authorities.
